Two dead at Thonotosassa home

- Two Hillsborough County deputies fatally shot a man outside a Thonotosassa home Tuesday afternoon when he raised a gun at them. Deputies later found the body of another man inside the home.

According the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies were responding to a disturbance call at 11000 Smoken Gun Lane around 3:15 p.m.

When deputies arrived, a man met them at the gated entrance with a gun in hand.

"Our deputies gave numerous commands to drop the firearm. The suspect then began to raise it, pointing it at deputies, at which time, they fired their weapons," said Colonel Donna Lusczynski.

Deputies then went inside the home and found the body of another man.

"After we secured the initial scene, we went to check the residence to make sure there were no other individuals," said Lusczynski, "We discovered the body of another individual who is deceased, which appears to be a homicide."

According to property records, the home is owned by Scott Tomlinson. Tomlinson co-owns a business with his brother less than a mile from the home called Tomlinson Brothers Construction Company, 10712 Florence Ave, Thonotosassa.

The sheriff's office has not released the names of the deceased men.

Investigators must obtain a search warrant before entering the property to gather evidence.

The deputies involved in the shooting were uninjured. They have been identified as Deputy Mark Barnwell, 52, and Master Deputy Izzy Roquemore, 45 . Barnwell has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for 29 years. Roquemore has been with the department for 15-years.

Both deputies patrol District 2. Neither deputy has been involved in a previous shooting with the department.
