Two sailors rescued by Sarasota County marine deputies

Two sailors were rescued on Saturday near Turtle Beach after their boat capsized.

The U.S. Coast Guard received a report before 5 p.m. of an activated personal locator beacon in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. The agency sent its aviation unit and located the capsized vessel, along with the two sailors, about two miles offshore.

In video captured by the sheriff’s office helicopter, the two sailors were seen sitting on top of the boat. Marine deputies tossed a safety line to both men from their boat. They grabbed the line, and swam to the agency’s boat.

Marine deputies gave them thermal blankets, and they were luckily okay, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
