Urn with human remains inside discovered at county trash facility

- Hillsborough County Solid Waste personnel made an unusual discovery last week. An urn with cremated remains was found at the solid waste center on Handcart Road in Seffner.

HCSW notified the sheriff's office of the discovery on Wednesday, one week after they had found it.

According to Hillsborough County Sheriff, detectives have been unsuccessful in locating any family members of the individual whose name is etched on the urn. They want to make sure it was not accidentally disposed of and that every effort is made to return the remains to the family.

Detectives have released photos of the urn, with some of the details etched on its face concealed. They ask that anyone with any knowledge of the urn who can verify those additional concealed details to call HCSO Corporal Shawn Helmer at 813.247.0455.
