USF and the Florida institute of Oceanography launched a brand new research vessel Tuesday.

The W.T. Hogarth will replace the Bellows vessel which led the charge in researching how the BP Oil Spill continues to affect the environment.

In fact, some of the BP Spill settlement money helped pay for the new ship.

Some of the best scientists and students will study Gulf of Mexico ecosystems while on board.

The vessel’s name pays tribute to the work of Dr. Bill Hogarth who was the lead researcher during the Deep Water Horizon spill.
