Wimauma man shot while standing outside home

- An 18-year-old was on his cell phone outside of his home when he felt a sharp pain in his chest. It was later learned that he was shot, deputies said.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday outside a Wimauma home on Aley Street, according to Hillsborough County deputies. The victim was standing near Aley and Railroad streets when he was shot.

Deputies said he managed to return inside the home where his family called for help. He was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital and underwent surgery. He is currently listed in critical condition, deputies said.

No other details have been released. Deputies said the investigation is ongoing.
