Missing woman and baby found safe in Sarasota

- A woman and her child who were reported missing amidst a custody dispute were found and said to be safe and unharmed.

Officers with the Sarasota Police Department were searching for 27-year-old Tiaja Lopez-Vasquez and her 17-month-old son, Thiago Lopez.

The pair was found near Webber Street and Beneva Raod in Sarasota.

Police said the case did not meet the requirements of an Amber Alert when they were reported missing. However, officers said they had reason to believe the child was not being cared for properly and could be in danger.

The case remains under investigation by the Department of Children and Families.

Anyone with information on this case or knows the whereabouts of the mother and child is asked to call the Sarasota Police Department at 941-954-7025. The Department of Children and Families is assisting on the case.
