Riverview mother may have been targeted in shooting

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the shooting of a Riverview mother early Saturday morning is not believed to be random.

Deputies are trying to determine why Angela Morales may have been targeted.

The 37-year-old was home with her husband and two children when there were several knocks at the front door around 12:30 a.m. Morales was shot multiple times when she opened the door, investigators said.

"This is something that's awful and shocking. Something that shouldn't happen to a young lady that's out here taking care of her kids in this neighborhood," neighbor Markeith Williams said.

The suspect fled in a dark-colored four-door vehicle. Investigators said there could have been two gunmen because of the types of shell casings recovered at the scene.

Morales was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
