Woman escapes car of attempted kidnapping suspect

- A Pasco County woman said she escaped the car of a man who tried to suffocate and kidnap her Tuesday night.

It happened around 10:30 at the 33-year-old victim's home. She said one of her roommates called the suspect, 44-year-old Jason Cheladyn, for a ride to get medical attention after being bitten by a dog

Before Cheladyn arrived, however, the roommate was able to get to a local hospital for treatment.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said when Cheladyn arrived, he and the victim sat in his vehicle in front of her home. He asked her if she wanted to smoke marijuana, but she said no. She began to get out of the car, but that's when she said Cheladyn put a plastic bag over her head and tried to keep her from leaving.

She fought back and was able to get out as the car was moving. The Pasco Sheriff's Office said deputies are now searching for the suspect.

Cheladyn was driving a red, 4-door Hyundai sedan with Florida tag BPSP50. His last known address is 17041 Budowski Road in Brooksville.

Warrants have been issued for Cheladyn's arrest for false imprisonment and simple battery. Anyone with information about his whereabouts or about what happened outside the victim's home is asked to call 911 or (727) 847-8102.
