Woman killed in scooter crash in St. Pete

- St. Petersburg police said a woman was killed in a scooter crash early Sunday morning.

The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. at 8th Avenue South and MLK Street South.

According to police, 30-year-old Julia Smith lost control of her scooter and hit a curb, throwing her off the vehicle. She was taken to Bayfront Health, where she was pronounced deceased.

Investigators said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
