TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - Since taking office in January, Governor Ron DeSantis has ranked among the most popular governors in America. Quinnipiac University’s poll this week shows DeSantis continues to soar with a 59 percent approval rating (only 17 percent disapprove).
Based on Quinnipiac’s numbers, that is the highest approval rating for a Florida governor in 10 years.
DeSantis also earns high marks across the aisle. Democrats approve of his performance 42 percent to 28 percent.
Overall, 67 percent said they are "very satisfied" or "somewhat satisfied" with Florida’s direction with DeSantis at the helm.
Other questions in the poll help explain why DeSantis is drawing such high support. Most voters think the state’s economy is doing well, and most are concerned about the environment, which DeSantis has pressed as a top priority.
"Ron DeSantis won the governorship by the slimmest of margins, yet in his first two-plus months in office he has gotten off to a strong start. His 59-percent job approval today is better than most of his counterparts around the country," said Quinnipiac University pollster Peter A. Brown.
"Part of Gov. DeSantis' success is his taking on issues such as the environment on which Republicans often don't focus. Gov. DeSantis and the state's politicians are benefitting from an overall sunny mood among Floridians who are happy about the economy and life in general," said Brown.
Quinnipiac University polled 1,058 Florida voters from March 6-11. It reports a margin of error of +/- 3.7 percent.
