TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - Alcohol is causing wallets across the country to bust.
According to research gathered by Finder.com, Americans spent $39.4 billion while drunk in the past year, which is significantly higher than the previous year's survey which showed adults spent $30.43 billion while drunk-shopping.
Over 50 percent of those surveyed said late-night drunk munchies and takeout was where their money went. Other sources were shoes and clothing, gambling, and cigarettes.
According to the site, men are spending more than women -- about $870 per year. Millenials are averaging $1,047 per year. The survey also showed that the average amount a person has spent while drunk shopping has increased in the past three years. In 2017, the average amount spent was $206. Last year, it climbed to $448.
