WATCH: Jetpack pilot blasts off from underwater

- You may have seen water-powered backpacks carrying tourists over the waves off Treasure Island, but you've never seen someone use an actual jetpack to blast out of the water.  That's exactly what one jetpack pilot did in Colorado.

Eric Scott has tried something that he says has never been done before -- using the jet propulsion technology underwater.

Scott emerged from beneath the lake in San Cristobal, Colorado and shot up into the air, covering more than 500 feet in distance.  He landed safely on the ground, all while strapped to a whopping 800-horsepower jetpack.

Jetpacks have been around for decades, but never used in water.

Scott said the 21-second stunt showed just how far technology has come.
