Local blacksmith makes art from everyday metal

- A Bay Area metal smith creates works of art - turning everyday items into metal masterpieces.

Lewis Riggleman uses just about anything made from metal in his craft. Gates, railings, cooking utensils - either iron or steel - he will turn it into a work of art.

Riggleman has been involved in blacksmithing for many years.

"I enjoy working with metal," Lewis said. "I been doing blacksmith work for 30 years. I didn't discovered it until I was 34. I am now 64."

He studied blacksmithing and later joined the Florida Artist Blacksmith Association.

He loves his craft, but there are some downsides.

"You can't mind getting hot," Lewis said.

Riggleman has participated in many arts and crafts shows, sometimes as a demonstrator of the art form.
