Silver Sneakers program focuses on senior mind-body fitness

- A program aimed at keeping seniors in shape, both physically and mentally is making strides in Hillsborough County - and the Bay Area.

The Silver Sneakers program at the YMCA offers exercise programs for those ages 65 and up. It includes workout classes plus group activities like bridge and art classes to keep seniors mentally sharp.

Carol Adams is 81 and teaches Silver Sneakers classes. She says the program has also been a boost for her social life.

"I like the friendships and it's another family for me", Adams said.

According to the YMCA, the Silver Sneakers program can be covered through insurance or at a reduced cost.
