TRINITY, Fla. (FOX 13) - Writing is a passion for eighth graders Julia Craig and Grace Vaughn.
"I really like telling stories through writing and I love explaining to people how I feel," said Julia.
"I can just come up with tons of ideas in my writing," said Grace.
The girls put those skills to the test when they found out about a contest from AAA. The prize was a trip to Europe.
"They had to answer three essay questions and submit a travel-related selfie," AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins explained. "We just wanted to inspire a love of travel for young students and so this is really an opportunity for them to make the world their classroom.”
"I was actually underwater and behind me was a poster with pictures of the places where I'm going to in Europe," said Grace.
"I explained how I love to see how other communities work and I love to meet new people and new places," offered Julia.
Then they received exciting news.
"Oh my gosh, Mom! I won! And I was just so ecstatic," said Julia.
Now the girls and their mothers will join dozens of other students from across the country to explore Amsterdam, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
"They're going to be going to museums, they're going to visit a school in the Netherlands," said Grace's mother Krissy.
"Just to experience another culture -- Julia's never been to Europe, she's never been out of the United States," said Julia's mother Diana.
Their hope in writing is now coming to life.
"The thing I'm most excited for is the Anne Frank hideout," Grace said.
"I'm really excited to meet new people from across our country and in a new country and to try different food and to be open minded about a new culture," added Julia.
