Anyone who immigrates to the United States undoubtedly experiences unimaginable hardships; from learning the language to assimilating into a community. A Bay Area organization recognized the need to help immigrants understand their rights and responsibilities while in the U.S.

Every day, immigrants come to Casa Chiapas Tampa, where they have resources for learning everything from speaking English to gaining employment.

"If they are here, they are working here, living here with their families, they need to know what their rights and what their responsibilities are," President and Founder of Casa Chiapas Tampa Cielo Gomez  said.

Gomez started the group five years ago because of the influx of mostly Mexican Latinos who had difficulties adjusting in America. More than 5,000 live in the USF area.

"We also help them go through basic education, let's say. like literacy. where they have to learn how to read and write their names," Gomez said.

Mexican consulates sponsor the grass-roots organization, which offers computer classes, sports leagues, adult education, language interpretation, community events and cultural activities.

"We help them to succeed in their work area, in the family areas," Gomez added.

Juan Gucman is 14-years-old and volunteers at the center.

"It's really good. I seen a lot of people get help, in education mostly," Juan said.

Casa Chiapa is helping immigrants make the transition for a better life in America, with care and love.
