MILWAUKEE, Wis. (FOX 13) - A woman jumped on the hood of her car after a man tried to steal it, but he keeps driving with her dangling from the front.
Surveillance video from the gas station where Melissa Smith was parked at the pumps shows the moment when a car pulls up, a man gets out and jumps in her driver’s seat.
Smith had just taken the gas pump from her car and was walking back around to the driver’s side when a black car pulls up, partially blocking the front of her car. A man wearing all black gets out of the car and sneaks over to Smith’s car.
When she realizes what is happening, she runs around to the driver’s side door of her car and then jumps onto the hood of her own car.
Her car jolts forward and then stops, as if the would-be thief is trying to throw her from the hood onto the ground. But she stays put, seeming to hold onto the windshield wipers. After a second attempt to throw her off, the man gets out of her vehicle and runs back to get into the black car.
Meanwhile, Smith’s car begins to roll into the roadway with her still on the hood. She manages to jump off and get into her car just as a bystander runs over to help her.
The black car takes off. Smith can be seen lowering herself to the ground next to her vehicle after it comes to a stop. She told local reporters she now realizes it may not have been the best idea to try and thwart the would-be car thief, but she’s glad she followed her instincts.
