12-year-old dog at Bradenton shelter 5 years needs home

- An animal shelter in Bradenton is hoping someone will open their heart and their home to a dog who has waited a very long time to be adopted.

Mia a bull terrier and the staff at Bishop Animal Shelter celebrated her 12th birthday Friday. She's been at the shelter for almost five years now.

The staff there says Mia is so friendly that they bring her out to meet school groups visiting the shelter, but her advanced age has made her less appealing to prospective families. They hope a little moment in the spotlight will give Mia a chance to find a forever home.

The staff says Mia might be older, but she still has the energy of a much younger dog. To find out more about Mia and other adoptable animals at the shelter, visit www.BishopSPCA.org or call 941-792-2863 for more information. Bishop Animal Shelter is located at 5718 21st Ave West, Bradenton.
