The Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose Tampa native Vernon Hargreaves in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday.

Hargreaves played football and track and field at Wharton High School, where he was named MVP in Under Armour's All-America game, a runner-up for Mr. Football Florida and National Defensive Player of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.

Hargreaves went on to be a three-time, first-team All-SEC cornerback at the University of Florida. After his junior year, he announced he'd enter the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Bucs originally had the ninth draft pick position, but traded down to the eleventh pick.
