TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Tampa Bay Lightning has learned who they’ll be playing in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After a win in the first round late Sunday night against the Atlantic Division champions- the Florida Panthers- the New York Islanders will be advancing to Round 2.
They defeated the Panthers four games to two in a double overtime, 2–1 Game 6, resulting in a second-ever playoff date with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team reported Sunday night.
The teams’ first Stanley Cup Playoffs match-up was back in 2004, and the Lightning swept the series on the road after splitting the opening two games on home ice.
This year’s round will also begin in the Bay area, as the Lightning are set to host the Islanders for the two first games, but the dates and times have yet to be released.
During the 2015-16 regular season, the Bolts only won one out of three games against the Isles, however in that one game, they put up seven goals- the most they scored all season.
