Red Sox 9-year-old super fan calls Tampa home

A 9-year-old Boston Red Sox fan from Tampa had the chance of a lifetime to see his favorite baseball team play, and his reaction to the team's win went viral.

Benjamin Mallin has been a hardcore Red Sox fan since he was 3 years old. His bedroom is decked out from wall to wall, corner to corner in the team's memorabilia.

Benjamin attended the American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros last week to see the game that would take the Boston team to the World Series.

"It was pretty amazing. I have seen the Red Sox play before but nothing like that," Mallin said.

They won and cameras showed Benjamin's reaction.

"I was praying because I didn't want them to tie the game up and win and that wouldn't have been good," said Mallin about the game against the Astros.

His dad stood next to him, later finding out his oldest son made it on TV.

"Once we got back to the hotel, (my wife) goes, 'Jonathan, you won't believe it. Benjamin was all over TBS! They were promo-ing him after the game,'" said Jonathan Mallin, Benjamin's father.

On Wednesday night, Benjamin played catch with his dad in the living room and watched the Red Sox from Tampa. His excitement at last week's game reminds us all how fun sports should be.

"I play travel ball and everybody is good on the team, so it feels like we're playing it for the major league," said Mallin, who plays on the Tampa Bay Little League team.

Now, he wants to cheer on his favorite team in person once more. And while his reaction was noticed by many fans, he hasn’t had any offers from the team to go to the World Series.

"It made me pretty darn excited," he said.
