3D tattoos make Seattle artist Internet famous

- A Portland tattoo artist's work is going viral, all because of designs that could leave you spinning. They are 3-d tattoos!

The artist known as "Winston the Whale" creates them. Taking his work outside the lines, the Portland tattoo artist found himself suddenly famous for art, that just might leave you a little dizzy, no corny glasses needed.

"The combination of the colors, the way they contrast to one another it creates that visual," Dave explained.

He says it all started last fall when he was visiting Seattle as a guest artist, somebody asked him for a red and blue skull created in a 3D-like effect.
"I didn't know what I was doing at that point, so we just tried it out and it looked really cool and I posted and it just blew up," Dave said.

Thousands of Instagram likes and several articles later, it's now his most requested type of tattoo. People are coming to his studio from all over the country - including this Seattle man who wanted something different for his collection.

Dave is not the first artist to give 3D tattoos a whirl, but he says simple, classic style and imagery make his work stand out.

"The whole 3D thing is very nostalgic for a lot of people, It's pop culture, ya know," Dave said.
