Crews free horse trapped in mud in Chester County

- Emergency response crews worked tirelessly to rescue a horse stuck in mud in West Chester on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened in Thornbury Township, Chester County. SKYFOX was over the scene where a large horse became stuck in a mud pit.

The fire department arrived on scene, and requested additional manpower and a horse rescue team from Lancaster County.

Members of the Fame Fire Company, Good Will Fire Company, Good Fellowship Ambulance, West Chester Fire Police and the Chester County Rescue Task Force responded to the scene to begin the rescue operation.
The highly trained rescue technicians built a platform around the horse, positioned straps around the horse and then utilized air knife trench rescue tools to slowly extricate Cyrus from the marsh.  At 1:56 PM Cyrus was removed from the swamp area and then a large crane was used to relocate Cyrus from the swamping area.
Cyrus remains at the Thornbury Farm under the care of Veterinarians as the sedation wears off.  The horse is listed as "guarded" at this time.
The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department was also assisted by the Birmingham Township Police Department.
