A south Florida officer recently found himself on the other side of a traffic stop, after he was pulled over by a civilian who says he was speeding.

It happened last Friday on the streets of Miami, where a woman named Claudia Castillo told WSVN she spotted the Miami-Dade police officer flying past her without his emergency lights on.

Castillo said she started recording on her smartphone, which was attached to her windshield, and then chased after him in an effort to get him to slow down.

She claimed to have reached speeds of up to 80 miles an hour before she started flashing her lights and honking her horn to get his attention.

The officer finally pulled over- thinking she had an emergency -and her phone was still recording as he approached her car.

“The reason I pulled you over today, and I’m asking you to come over and have a conversation, is because I saw you since Miller Driver- when you were first jumping onto the Palmetto- and you were pushing 90 miles an hour,” Castillo can be heard telling the officer.

“Really? Okay,” the officer replied, seemingly surprised by the news.

“I pushed 80 to try and catch up with you, and I was still – ya know -eating your dust. You were leaving me behind and I was going 80 miles an hour,” Castillo said. “I just wanted to know: What’s the emergency?”

“Um, I don’t know how fast I was going. But I can tell you this- I’m on my way to work right now," the officer said. "Um, I don’t believe I was speeding, but like I said, you’re entitled to your opinion.”

Castillo emphasized that he’s supposed to be a leader in the community, and that he should set an example for others on the roads.

He agreed, and though he didn’t admit to speeding, the officer did end up apologizing.

“Ok well I apologize, and I’ll be sure to slow down then,” he said.

A series of three videos showing the entire chase and the interaction between Castillo and the officer have since gone viral on YouTube.

In response, officials with the Miami Dade Police Department released the following statement on Sunday:

“The Miami-Dade Police Department will have his immediate command staff investigate the matter, once the officer and citizen are identified. The appropriate course of action will be taken at that point.”
