Heavy snow leaves plane in tail-stand position at Truckee Tahoe Airport

- Thick, heavy snow shifted a plane in a tail stand position at California’s Truckee Tahoe Airport on January 16, according to local reports.

The National Weather Service in Reno retweeted a photo of the Cessna Citation X jet, writing that around 20 inches of so-called ‘Sierra Cement’ snow had fallen at the airport. The service had earlier issued a blizzard warning for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, effective until 7am on January 17, forecasting wind gusts of up to 90 mph and between two and five feet of snow in areas 7,000 feet above sea level.

Speaking to Storyful, Truckee Tahoe Airport spokesperson Marc Lamb said that 16 inches of snowfall overnight had added weight to the rear of the plane, which houses the aircraft’s heavy engine.
