TOUCHING VIDEO: 9-year-old with CP tries to stand for national anthem

- A Michigan mother proudly shared video of her 9-year-old son with cerebral palsy trying to stand for the national anthem.

Logan doesn't walk without the aid of medical equipment, said his mother, Rebecca Wilson of Chesterfield, Michigan, but he does crawl, and he loves his sports and his national anthem.

On this day, while watching a game they recorded on the DVR, Wilson noticed her son trying to stand for the national anthem in their living room and decided to record it. "He always takes off his hat," she said, "but until yesterday I never really saw him try to stand. He just knew that is what we do to show respect to our country and everyone who fights so hard for us.  He is truly just an amazing kid just doing what he loves," she said.

Logan is a huge Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan, and they started taking him to baseball games a few years ago because he plays in the special needs baseball league.

Logan was born 3 1/2 months early weighing 1 pound 10 ounces and spent 6 months in the NICU. He was diagnosed with spastic quad cerebral palsy and doctors told his mother his quality of life would be almost nothing.

Instead, though he has little vocabulary, Wilson says he understands everything and loves everything and everyone.

In the touching video, he is not only seen trying to stand for the national anthem, he claps and tries to sing along, and he cheers when the cheers break out on the television.

Wilson captioned her Facebook post, "Even my 9 year old with CP (who can't walk) knows you're supposed to stand up during the national anthem...He loves it!"

She admits while the caption was a dig at athletes who have refused to stand during the national anthem and doesn't agree with it, she believes that everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the matter. "In my opinion, I believe they are not only disrespecting their own country, a country that affords them the right to do what they did, but also disrespecting all the people who fight for this country.  I do not disagree with their reasons for doing what they did, I disagree with the actions they took," Wilson said.
