Some travelers were jumping around and eager to get going at an airport in San Francisco. They were Chihuahuas, headed to New York in hopes of being adopted.

Virgin America teamed up with animal rescuers for Operation Chihuahua Airlift. The program started in 2010 because of an overpopulation of Chihuahuas in California shelters.

The Chihuahuas were clearly in the Christmas spirit, sporting seasonal sweaters.

The Chihuahuas will be adopted in New York, where demand for smaller dogs is greater than the supply.
