WATCH: Deputies respond to bear locked in car

- Deputies in Jefferson County, Colorado are still scratching their heads over how a bear could have gotten itself stuck inside a car.

The young bear appeared to have entered the car and locked itself inside. When Deputies Tillman and McLaughlin responded to the call, they noticed the bear inside the car and the doors locked, but no windows were broken and the door handles weren't the kind you lift up.

The bear destroyed the inside of the car while trying to get out, so deputies decided to to pop open the hatch and release the bear through the back of the car.

When the deputies opened the back door, the bear jumped out and ran toward the woods.

Deputies believe given the size of the bear, there may have been a mother bear close by.

The bear had ripped the ceiling off the car, tore the plastic sunroof cover and chewed up the steering wheel. The owner says the car had to be towed.
