Ongoing updates for Hardee County residents as Hurricane Irma impacts Florida.

CURFEW:

Hardee County has issued a curfew between 8:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night until further notice.

TRASH & DEBRIS REMOVAL:

Debris pick-up for Hardee County residents is anticipated to begin as early as Monday, September 18th. Officials stress that residents should get as much storm debris to the curb this weekend. Vegetative debris should be kept separate from construction type debris.

Residents are urged to separate the debris as follows:

  • Construction and demolition debris (damaged components of buildings and structures such as lumber and wood, wall board, glass, metal, roofing materials, tile, furnishings, and fixtures)
  • Household hazardous waste (materials that are ignitable, reactive, toxic or corrosive such as paints, cleaners, pesticides, etc)
  • White goods (refrigerators, freezers, air conditions, heat pumps, ovens, ranges, washing machines, clothes dryers, and water heaters)
  • Electronic waste (computers, televisions, office electronic equipment, etc.)
  • Vegetative debris (tree branches/limbs, other leafy material.
  • Stumps DO NOT move stumps to right-of-way from private property.

SHELTERS:

General population shelter will be open at Hilltop Junior High School, 2401 US Hwy. 17N, Wauchula, on Saturday, September 9 beginning at 12pm (noon)

Special needs shelter, 2968 US Hwy. 17N, Bowling Green, will be open Saturday, September 9 beginning at 9am.

Special Needs Registery with the County by accessing the website at http://www.hardeecounty.net/site/content/eoc/specialneeds.htm or pick one up at the Emergency Operation Center at 404 W. Orange Street, in Wauchula.

SCHOOLS STATUS:

Hardee County school officials announced on Tuesday, September 12 its schools will be closed until further notice.

CLOSINGS:

No other closings to report.

ROADS:

Tolls on all Florida roadways are suspended as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 5.
