The long-awaited Sprouts Farmers Market opens in South Tampa Wednesday, bringing competition to nearby stores Publix and Fresh Market.

Sprouts is an all-natural grocery store that says they offer fresh, natural and organic foods at great prices. Headquartered in Phoenix, the grocery chain operates more than 260 stores in 15 states. The new South Tampa store will be the third in Florida.

Sprouts will be holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7 a.m. to celebrate the opening of the new 30,000-square-foot store. The store will also have special treats for the inaugural shoppers.

The first 200 shoppers in like will receive 20-percent off their purchase, muffin and coffee samples will also be served to those in line prior to the opening.

Every 15th customer to checkout will receive a coupon book, and every customer will receive a free reusable shopping bag with their purchase.

The store is located at 1523 S. Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story erroneously suggested that Sprouts would be the only local grocer donating unsold food to charities. That incorrect information has been removed.
