The popular AirFest air show will roar back into the skies of South Tampa next spring.

The Air Force announced today that the show would return on March 19 and 20 of 2016, and will again feature the Thunderbirds demonstration team.

The base recently marked its 75th birthday, and that celebration will continue as the theme of next year's AirFest.

"For 75 years MacDill Air Force Base has provided unrivaled airpower and a rich heritage of associations dating back to 1941," Col. Daniel Tulley, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander, said in a release announcing the show.  "We are excited to invite our community to celebrate our 75th birthday and witness firsthand the capabilities of their United States Air Force."

The last AirFest in March 2014 drew so many people that officials eventually had to close the gates and turn people away.
