Missing St. Petersburg girl found sleeping under grill cover

- An officer found a missing 6-year-old sleeping underneath an outdoor grill Wednesday night, putting an end to an hourslong search.

The St. Petersburg Police Department searched 6-year-old Jermiya Land near her home in the 1700 block of 18th Street South.

Jermiya's mother said her little girl went missing after she was put to bed around 7:30.

Police were concerned the little girl may have been scared and hiding out of view, which turned out to be the case.

Law enforcement helicopters and bloodhounds helped with the search.

Surrounded by family and members of the community, Jermiya's mother embraced the little girl and asked her why she ran away. Jermiya smiled, but did not respond.

Her mother did not seem upset, instead, she was relieved to have her baby back in her arms.
