Large mulch fire sends smoke over State Road 54 in Trinity

- A large pile of mulch caught fire Thursday night, causing major road closures in Pasco County.

Around 10 p.m., Pasco fire officials received a call about the fire at PAW Materials, in the 14200 block of State Road 54 in Trinity. When they arrived, they said, the fire was about 300 feet by 300 feet, and about 30 feet in height.

The fire sent smoke across SR-54 in the area, shutting down westbound lanes just east of Gunn Highway during the overnight hours. It took about three hours to bring the fire under control and there were no injuries, fire officials said.

SR-54 has since reopened. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
