NEW PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) - The Pasco County Sheriff's Office says a reported child abduction has been determined to be unfounded. They say it was made up by a young girl.
Pasco County officials say a girl found a small, pink shirt and then made up the story about an abduction.
They say she told an 11-year-old friend about the fake abduction. The 11-year-old told an adult, launching an investigation into the incident.
The reported kidnapping was in New Port Richey around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.
The sheriff's office says it received a report that a man driving a van got out and grabbed a girl.
They say it turns out a child made up the story. Pasco officials were working with the child's parents to resolve the issue.
There can be charges for making a false report, but Pasco officials said they hoped to resolve the issue without filing charges.
