Out-of-classroom learning key for Pepin Academy students

TAMPA (FOX 13) - Introducing new experiences to children with special needs is very important for their growth. That's why Pepin Academies take students on fun adventures as often as possible. 

Captain Woody Gore worked with a group of students from Pepin Academies to teach them how to fish.

"I have a grandson that has autism and I thought it would be something that I could pay back to the community," Captain Woody said.

Paula Retter volunteer's for Pepin Academies and loves helping the children.

"They are out here learning how to fish," Paula said. "It's a project they wanted to do."

Michelle Smith's son goes to the school and said the activities they do are great for his educational goals.

"The fishing is great, I mean, they are having to do all sorts of things that is outside their comfort zone," Michelle said.

"The challenge of trying to catch a fish is really fun," Michelle's son Andrew added.
