Harbor Freight Tools is recalling one million electric chainsaws due to a malfunction that can pose a serious injury hazard to the operator.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website, "The power switch can malfunction and allow the chainsaw to continue operating after the operator moves the switch to the 'off' position."

The recall involves two models of 14 inch chainsaws sold under the brand names Portland, One Stop Gardens and Chicago Electric.

The Portland and One Stop Gardens models have "Portland" printed on the blades, while the Chicago Electric brand has "Chicago Electric" printed on the handle.

Per CPSC, all of the recalled chainsaws were sold in stores and online with a black blade guard. The products were available from May 2009 through February 2018 for about $50, with model numbers 67255 or 61592.

Harbor Freight Tools urges consumers to stop using the chainsaws immediately. The products can be returned to stores for a free replacement chainsaw. Officials say replacement units will be available beginning May 21.

CPSC adds, "Harbor Freight Tools has received 15 reports of chainsaws continuing to operate after being turned off by the operator, resulting in three laceration injuries including one serious injury to the arm requiring stitches."
