1 killed following Sarasota lightning strike

- A person was killed in Sarasota following a lightning strike on the beach, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say they responded to the 6000 block of Midnight Pass Road for a report of a lightning strike. 

When they arrived, crews found a visiting first responder helping the victim.  

The victim died shortly after being transported to the hospital.
