Two members of the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office saved unsuspecting shoppers from an alligator lurking under a vehicle in a Winn Dixie parking lot.

The deputies were called to the Winn Dixie on Fruitville Road to collect the 4-foot alligator. It was found resting under a white SUV, which had a man inside. There's no word on how the man got into the SUV without the gator nipping his toes.

Bystanders recorded videos as Sgt. Mark Tuls and Deputy Lincoln Dilling pulled the alligator out, taped up his jaw, and put him into the back of a cruiser.

It's a good thing their vehicles have glass separating the front and back seats.

In a post on Facebook, the sheriff's office commended Tuls and Dilling for protecting Sarasota County residents from the unexpected danger.
