Hernando deputies arrest shooting suspect

- Hernando County deputies arrested a suspect they believe shot an 18-year-old woman inside a Spring Hill apartment complex Thursday. 

The shooting happened on Spring Haven Loop inside the Spring Haven Apartment complex. According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, the woman was walking near the complex clubhouse around 9:30 p.m. when a bullet struck her face.

Deputies searched by air and by ground for the suspected shooter, 17-year-old Christian Fitzgerald.

Friday afternoon, the sheriff's office said they arrested Fitzgerald at his apartment when he returned home for the first time after the shooting.

Medics transported the injured woman to the hospital by helicopter. Despite her injuries, the Hernando County sheriff says she is expected to survive. 

The relationship between the victim and shooter remains unclear as well as their connection to the complex where the shooting occurred.

Detectives are still investigating a possible motive for the shooting.
