Investigation underway after body found in Alafia River

- An investigation is underway after a drowning in the Alafia River. 

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said they received a 911 call just after 6:00 p.m. for a report of a man going under the water in the middle of the river. 

Multiple units responded to the waterfront in the area of Barcin Circle. A body was recovered shortly after by HCSO's Underwater Recovery Team.  

Deputies do not know how the man ended up in the river, according to a press release. 

The identify of the man has not yet been determined.
