Legless woman hides from deputies in plastic tote: Sheriff

- A fugitive went to great lengths to try and escape Polk County deputies Tuesday, according to Sheriff Grady Judd.

Sheriff Judd says Krystal Lee Anderson, who lost her legs in a shootout with police at a Burger King in 2015, was found hiding underneath a pile of wigs inside a plastic tote.

"The deputy goes and says, 'There's a child in the bedroom in a plastic tote,'" Sheriff Judd explained.

But the person in the tote was not a child. Deputies learned it was Anderson, who is about 4 feet tall.

They arrested the woman at her boyfriend's home on Lake Elizabeth Drive in Winter Haven. Officials at the scene said Anderson started screaming, "Don't shoot, put your guns up, I've already been shot 36 times."

According to Sheriff Judd, that number may be a stretch, but Anderson did lose her legs in a shootout with Ocoee police officers at a Burger King back in 2015.

"Interestingly enough, she was holding up her brother at gunpoint, along with other employees," said Judd.

According to Judd, Anderson failed to appear at a recent court hearing in Orange County and fled to Winter Haven, where she was ultimately captured.
