Mazda 3 sought in deadly Sarasota hit-and-run

- Police in Sarasota have released new information connected to a deadly hit and run.

Gisela Staino was planning to move to Sarasota from Miami for a new job, but that was cut short.

Late last month a driver hit the 36-year-old as she was walking across Fruitville Road and then took off.

“She had gone up there I believe for a job interview," said her close friend, Ana Maria Diaz, of Miami. "That was the end of that. She never made it back... I can’t imagine what kind of individual would do something like that. Even if you hit an animal, you stop. This is a life you’re taking.”

Sarasota police now say evidence left at the scene points to a Mazda 3, between the model years 2004-2009, with damage on the front right side.

”We're certain of the car based on evidence left at the scene," explained Sgt. Bruce King, with the Sarasota Police Department.

Friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for Staino’s remains to be returned to her family in Argentina. Meanwhile, they await news of an arrest.

“It is a very empty feeling to know that justice is not being served. There’s no reason why someone doesn’t stop," Diaz said. “Do what is right. Your conscious is going to catch up with you.”
