A Fort Lauderdale man faces a DUI charge after a motorcyclist from Brandon died following a highway crash.

The crash occurred around 1:45 a.m. Friday along Interstate 4, east of State Road 574. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said 23-year-old Andy Sanford was traveling on his motorcycle behind 2018 Dodge Ram, driven by 39-year-old Johnathan Thompson.

Troopers said Sanford tried to overtake the vehicle and collided with the back of the truck. Thompson continued heading east on I-4, and then traveled north on Interstate 75. Troopers said he turned back southbound on I-75 before they caught up to him. Thompson was arrested for leaving the scene of the crash, driving with a suspended license, and DUI.

Troopers said Sanford passed away following the crash.
