Roy Halladay monument unveiled in Clearwater

Baseball Hall of Famer Roy Halladay is forever immortalized at Jack Russell Stadium.

Halladay was killed in 2017 in a plane crash over The Gulf of Mexico. The accident happened off the coast of Pasco County.

On Tuesday morning, Clearwater city officials unveiled a new monument to honor the athlete during a ceremony.

The concrete marker joins five others, commemorating former Phillies Hall of Fame players, behind the bleachers in an area called “Monument Park.”

"You think about baseball today and you think about baseball back when he was playing and how he has instilled in our youth the importance of giving your best every day and not wanting to give up," said Clearwater mayor George Cretekos, "and not wanting to give up the game."
