Three US Post Office drop boxes had mail stolen out of them in the early morning hours Thursday in Sarasota.

They were all outside post office locations; one on Ringling Boulevard, another on North Beneva Road, and the third on Siesta Drive.

"To me, I just have to suffer the cost. I can't do anything about it," said Cory Coxey.

Coxey believes he had a piece of mail worth $100 stolen recently.

"It's very discouraging. I think it'll affect business. People won't trust the mail system. They'll be less likely to send packages in the mail," Coxey said.

Sarasota police were first to respond to the mail thefts saying whoever is behind it broke into the mail bins and took everything inside.

They have since been taped-off and the case is now in the hands of the US Postal Inspector. Any potential prosecution will happen on the federal level.

If you believe you are a victim you should contact the US Post Office at 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-277-8777).
