Twelve years ago Sara Margulis and her husband came up with an idea to register and essentially crowdfund their honeymoon.

"We created our own makeshift solution for our wedding and guests overwhelmed us with $5000 towards our honeymoon in Fiji.  They begged us to make it possible for other couples to do it,” Margulis said .

From there, Honeyfund was born.  You can find it online or on your phone.

"We've served over 800k couples in 12 years and they've received more than half a billion in gifts,” Margulis said.  "To imagine we've come this far and helped this many people it’s a wonderful feeling

Originally headquartered in Sonoma County, California, Honeyfund recently packed up and moved to Clearwater.

”We were really looking to hack the company's growth we wanted to get out from under the shadow of Silicon Valley,” she said.

They currently employ 13 people with 5 more coming soon.

”We're able to bring on more talented people higher up in their experience for less money and still pay them what they feel is fair and value to them,” Margulis said.

She also touted the energy in Tampa Bay and entrepreneurial spirit.

“I believe more tech companies will look at Honeyfund and think that was a smart move.
