Twiggy the squirrel skis her way into retirement

- After four decades, Twiggy the water-skiing squirrel is hanging up her teeny, tiny water skis.

The act has been touring the U.S. since 1979, and while there have been a few Twiggys over that time, the performance has always remained a classic.

Twiggy is so popular that she's appeared in movies like ‘Anchorman’ and ‘Dodgeball,’ and even a music video for country star Brad Paisley.

Her handler, Lou Ann Best, says after 30 years it's just time to take a break.

"It really touches my heart and it is really rewarding to do something where you are out there and you look at all the smiles on people's faces. Twiggy always makes people smile."

Lou Ann plans on writing a children's book based on Twiggy. She's dedicated the shows to water safety since her husband died in an accident.

Twiggy will be performing Saturday at 11, 1, 3 and 5 p.m. She'll be back Sunday at noon, 2 and 4.  You can see her at the Suncoast Boat Show, based at Marina Jack’s in Sarasota.
