A gunman is still on the loose after two people died and another was injured in a shooting in St. Petersburg, Florida Monday night.

The St. Petersburg Police Department says the shooting happened at 18th Avenue South and 34th Street South. The location is near a Shell gas station, where officers have gathered and blocked off with yellow crime scene tape.

Police say a large crowd - more than 100 people - gathered there around the time of the shooting, sometime before 9:40 p.m. It's unclear exactly what happened.

Officers were inspecting a dark-colored, two-door coupe, possibly a Cadillac, which was parked on the roadway within the crime scene. Police said the vehicle may be connected to one or more of the victims.

The two who died were both adult males. Another adult male was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they were still working to identify the gunman. Officers said they suspect the gunman and the three men were acquainted.
