Vigil held for second victim in Club Rayne shooting

- For the first time since Saturday's deadly shooting, Club Rayne reopened its doors Tuesday evening, but instead of business as usual, a candle light vigil was held in memory of a man who was shot inside and lost his life.

Chris Houston, 20, of Tampa, died from his injuries after being shot inside the strip club on North Nebraska Avenue around 2 a.m. Saturday.

"He only walked in the club for 10 seconds, 10 seconds, literally, and his life was gone," said Devontre Houston, his younger brother. "I can't even explain the pain I feel right now."

Family members said Houston stopped by the club to pick up a friend, but shortly after entering the club, a man opened fire on the large crowd.

According to Tampa Police, the suspect got into a confrontation before the shooting. In addition to Houston, 21-year-old Marvin Lancaster, of Brandon, died on the scene from a gunshot wound. Six others were shot, but they survived.

"We're not in Iraq. We're here in Tampa, Florida, a place where we all must feel safe in our community," said Ali Muhammad, of the New Black Panther's Party of Tampa Bay.

The community activist group organized a candle light vigil at the club on Tuesday night. They said they are calling on the entire community to put an end to ongoing gun violence and speak out against it.

"Anyone that knows something, say something. The 'no snitching policy' must end," said Muhammad.

Houston was an aspiring musician with "Team Up Entertainment" in Tampa, along with his brother. He dedicated his music to spreading awareness of gun violence after his older brother, Sergio Smith, was gunned down in 2012.

"He wanted us to be famous rappers. I'm going to pursue that dream for him," said Devontre Houston.

Crimestoppers is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information is urged to call 1-800-873-8477 (TIPS).
