Runner faces 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days

A Bay Area runner is about to embark on a challenge few have conquered.

Mikayla Wingle is taking part in the 2018 World Marathon Challenge.

She will attempt to run seven marathons on seven continents over the span of seven days.

"It will be a total of 184 miles in 168 hours," Wingle marveled.

Over the course of the 168-hour period, competitors will run the length of a marathon, then fly by charter plane to a new location and then run some more.

They will run standard marathon distances in Novo, Antarctica, Cape Town, South Africa, Perth, Australia, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Lisbon, Europe, and Miami in the USA.

At each location, local experts will monitor each runner's distance on custom courses.

Mikayla and her 16-member team - named Hold the Plane - start their journey later this month.

They are using the event to raise money for 11 charities.
